Camp Denison is thirty-six acres of conservation land located in the Town of Georgetown, MA. Camp Denison is open to the public during daylight hours for the purpose of providing quality passive recreational and environmental experiences.
Individuals and families come daily to walk the trails, picnic, bird-watch and enjoy the environment. Other activities include horseshoes, shuffleboard, grill sites, playground, pavilion, observation benches, B.B. court, field activities, non-profit tent sites, fishing and small carry in boating.
As you enter the first eight hundred feet of entrance driveway from Nelson Street in Georgetown, you pass on the right, farm pastures and pastured woodland. During the growing season, grazing sheep can usually be observed close to the fence. As you penetrate deeper into the forest the growth becomes dense and closer to the road until suddenly, the forest opens up to tall magnificent pines. Further down the gravel drive you arrive at the Great Hall lodge and Baldpate Pond.
Great Hall lodge is situated overlooking Baldpate Pond and used for a variety of scheduled special permit group activities including community functions, interest group activities, community conferences, birthday parties, nature programs etc.
The property extends to the shores of Baldpate Pond. The Camp Denison property has Seven Hundred and ninety feet of shoreline frontage on Baldpate Pond and provides gorgeous scenic views. The pond itself is a 66 acre greatpond located in Boxford, MA. Sorry, no swimming allowed anywhere in the pond. A small open field occurs along the eastern side of the Camp Denison property. Many species of shrubs occur in this area, which attract a variety of songbirds. The western side of the camp property borders Boxford's Baldpate Pond State Park and is 105 acres with numerous trails that follow the length of the pond.
Most of the property is forest with a mixture of mature white pine, oak, maple, hickory, locust and other commonly occurring hardwood and softwood trees. Soils bordering the pond are mostly well-drained sand and gravel with elevations well above the water level of the pond. Some rock or ledge outcrop on the hill occurs just EAST from the Great Hall. North from the camp the soil becomes stony with some bedrock in the upland and wetland soils at lower elevations. Two intermittent streams flow through the property.
In general, the outside area is available for your enjoyment at no charge and no permit for your use is required.
Thank you!
